Fess Up Friday

Wow, what a week in the confession department.

I went to workout on Monday, after a long time of not going to the Y (won't divulge how long), and the first thing I did when I got home, was eat a cookie 2 cookies, while making dinner.

I gave my 2 1/2 year old son privacy in the bathroom as he sat on his potty seat with poop stuck in his bottom. I went away for less than a minute to get wipes. When I came back there was Elijah standing up with a wad of toilet paper AND poop on his hand! I screamed-not at him, but a general ARGH at the grossness of the situation. So, I do realize that my screaming will probably dissuade and hinder our potty training efforts. Poor Eli will be scared to go potty for fear of me yelling.. Now, the irony of the situation is that this is the same kid we literally had to pull poop from his bottom, often getting it on OUR hands!

I wanted to go out and shovel while the kids napped on Tuesday. As I was about to head out, Elijah woke up. I tried to get him ready quickly as I knew Caleb would be waking up soon. We were not quick enough, however, as Caleb woke up as we were all bundled. I was determined to get out and shovel quickly, so I put him in the most secure thing we have-his exersaucer. Unfortunately Caleb was crying in it, so I put him in his bouncy seat. He was tolerable of it and secure (or so I thought).

I came back in to check on him after 5 minutes outside and he was fine. I went back out and checked on him 5 minutes later to find him like this:

And yes, I obviously didn't rescue him right away as I needed to grab the camera to document it, plus he wasn't complaining or crying about his position.

Finally, I often don't find 4 year old humor funny (that's a confession by itself), but I find myself laughing because Charlotte does and I do want her to think she is funny. On Thursday, while waiting to be let into school, Charlotte said, "My daddy ate a snow pancake last year," and then completely laughed hysterically at Greg's silliness. I laughed too, as my motherly duty. Then a couple of minutes later, she joined 2 of her friends and said the same thing. And for a very brief moment, parental worry set in, as I thought, I hope they laugh with her and find Charlotte funny. I admit that although, I don't always find Charlotte funny, I NEEDED her friends to, so that Charlotte fit in. (Yes, I felt all this in a millisecond.) Fortunately, Charlotte's 4 year old friends thought my little 4 year old was funny! Whew!

Fess Up Friday

Apparently on Monday night Elijah came into bed to sleep with us. I vaguely recall him coming to my side of the bed and me lifting him up into it. I forgot he was in bed with us (after all, I WAS sleeping), until I rolled over. Let's just say that the children's rhyme:
There were 3 in the bed and the little one said "roll over, roll over," so they all rolled over and one fell out.
is quite appropriate. My rolling over cause Elijah, who I didn't even really know was sleeping in bed next to me, to fall out of our bed. Now, that woke me up!
Because this happened on Monday night, I was quite sleepy on Tuesday. So much so, that I started to doze off during lecture of Bible Study, and my good friend Angela, had to poke me to keep me awake!

Last night I ran errands to Babies R Us to get $3 Earth's Best Chlorine Free Diapers, and 40 cents Earth's Best baby food, and also wanted to go to Target to exchange a sweater. I left one of my coupons for babies R Us at home, along with the sweater I wanted to exchange. And of course, didn't realize it until I was practically at the store-UGH.

Over Christmas break I was getting up at 6 am to go power walking with my next door neighbor. Yeah, I confess that sleep is way more important than a 6 am wake up call!

Come join in the confessing!

Doing Dishes

I let the kids "do" the dishes today. This also meant that my kitchen floor got washed today!

As I was putting the "clean" dishes away (back in the sink!) I lifted up the dish drainer next to the sink to wipe up all the water that was pooled under it. At this point Charlotte came into the kitchen, and asked "Where did all that water come from?"
Seriously?!?! Um, where do you think?
"Well, it came from all of the fun you had doing the dishes!"

Fess Up Friday

First and foremost, I fess up that I don't really care about it being new years eve. We had a fun family outing to the zoo this evening, and I'm already in my PJs, laundry running in the washing machine, and my bed calling my name as soon as I finish this!

Elijah and I had a mommy/son excursion the a few nights before Christmas (shopping!) It wasn't until we got home and I removed Elijah's boots did I realize that I had him out without socks on his feet! (now, if the temperature was as it is tonight-50 degrees!, wouldn't have been a big deal.) I guess I need to be proud of the fact that he can put his boots on all by himself. Plus, he never complained, so that definitely means that I need to give a great big shout out to Lands' End for keeping his bare feet toasty warm!

I came home one day from running errands to Charlotte informing me that Greg hit her finger with the hammer. They were hanging some wall decor in her room. I gave Greg the you-better-explain-quickly-to-me-how-you-could-have-done-that-look, and he said, "Well, she hit me on the finger with the hammer, so now we're even." I KID YOU NOT!!!!!
(Now, before anyone says that this is not me fessing up to anything. I admit I have been the primary author of this blog, it is about Greg and me raising our kids together, thus the inclusion of his confession. Plus, this story was too funny not to share.)

This week we were training Caleb not to get up in the middle of the night using the Ferber method of sleep training. (For those that don't know the Ferber method you go in after 5 minutes of crying, then after 10 minutes of wailing, then after 15 minutes of screaming, never picking up the child, but just assuring him that you haven't abandoned him, by rubbing his back or belly, and saying everything is OK.) On our first night, Caleb finally fell asleep after the 20 minute check-in (or so I thought). I felt bad about having him cry for so long, so I peeked in his room, and then walked right up to his crib, and very quietly whispered to Caleb who was turned away from me sleeping on his belly, that I was very sorry and that I loved him very much. Well, Caleb had me fooled, because as I finished whispering to him, he turned his head toward me, got up on his knees and started wailing again. I very quickly and quietly left the room, and profusely apologized to Greg for my stupid move and bunkered down to listen to his crying for another 25 minutes.

So, any final confessions of 2010? Happy New Year!

A conversation

Iowa Gramma: You're lovely, just lovely.
Charlotte: I'm not lovely-YOU'RE lovely.
Iowa Gramma: If I'm lovely, then what are you?
Charlotte: I'm jealous!

Fess Up Friday

This week after mopping the floors Greg mopped the floors, I flushed the water down the toilet, along with one of the rags! So, as you can guess this fess up post is two-fold, because I'm sure you can imagine how dirty the floors were so that I wasn't able to see the one rag in the water!
